Letter to our world

      Cuando yo era pequeño, mi papá coleccionaba sellos postales mandándose cartas con filatélicos de todo el mundo. La conexión que el creaba con desconocidos a través de una pasión, me inspiró a crear composiciones usando estampillas del país de cada personaje que retrato. Me gusta usar sellos que ya han viajado para conectar a gente porque estos, al haberles pasado la lengua para pegarlas al sobre, contienen el ADN del destinatario. Para crear retratos de figuras que me intrigan y así mostrar que ellos contienen multitudes.

      While I was growing up my dad was collecting stamps by sending letters to people from all over the world. That always stayed with me and inspired me to make my collages with stamps from the country of the subject, because I believe that the place we´re born shapes us. Using stamps that have travelled, that have made a connection. Those stamps were also licked so they have the DNA of people from that country, which then becomes part of the skin of my subjects. Creating portraits of large figures I idolize to make them even larger by showing they actually contain multitudes.
